Style and Shape Group Modifiers

On the Style line, there are options for Visibility, Blend Mode, and Opacity. There is also a button for changing the Style color, and a slot for adding Modifiers next to it.

Add Image Modifiers to any Style

The purpose of a Style is to draw the vector paths listed above it in the tree. The result of this rasterization is a set of pixels, just as if you were using a simple PNG image.

In Autograph you can add Image Modifiers to a specific Style for even more creative options.

Let's take a look at the following example, which can be downloaded by clicking on this link:

In the Shape Group Head shape group, there is a Fill Head style filling the result of an Ellipse Generator with yellow/orange color.

Adding a simple Bevel Emboss Modifier to this Fill Style and setting its Size and Soften parameters to 150.0 will immediately add volume to this flat silhouette.

Add Image Modifiers to Shape Groups

As described in this section of the documentation, Shape Groups are containers for grouping both Paths and Styles. Modifiers can also be added to the rasterized images produced by these groups.

In the same example project, Shape Group Face contains:

  • A Fill Eyes Style, filling in the result of the two Ellipse Generators in black to create the eyes
  • A Stroke Mouth Style, manually drawing a path with the Draw Bézier Curve tool in black, which represents the mouth

To the right of Shape Group Face, there's also a slot for adding Modifiers to the image produced by this Shape Group. Using a Bevel Alpha Modifier, the eyes and mouth appear to carve into the silhouette.

Add Image Modifiers to the Layer

Finally, you can also add Modifiers to the layer itself, such as a Drop Shadow to separate the happy face from the background; or a Turbulent Displace, to distort the entire layer and give it more of a cartoonish look.

Each tree parameter can then be animated individually, resulting in the animation below:
