Rich Text / Plain Text
Autograph provides two text creation modes, Rich Text and Plain Text.
Rich Text is the default mode, allowing you to select and edit specific characters.
Edit Local Selection in Rich Text Mode
After creating a Text Layer, use the Text Tool to click on it and select several characters.
Then use the Text Panel to modify any parameter, such as the Font Family, Font Size, or Fill Color.
Note
When Select and move is the active tool, you can quickly switch to the Text Tool and select characters by double-clicking on the text in the Viewer.
To exit this Edit mode, just press the Esc key.
Plain Text
Select a Text Layer in the Timeline, then go to the Selection Overview part of the Inspector panel and click on the Source line.
The Text Generator options appear below in the Properties section.
Checking the Use Plain Text option switches the text engine to this specific mode.
In Plain Text mode, it is no longer possible to make local adjustments to a selection of characters; however, other features are available through the Source Text parameter.
The Source Text parameter defines the raw content of the text. The focus here is simply on the characters that make up the string, rather than on the way it's drawn, the font used, or its color, etc.
Warning
Remember that in Plain Text mode, the style applied to a Text Layer using the Text Panel will be global to the entire string.
Spotlight on the Source Text Parameter:
- It provides a text editing area
- It can contain several lines
- Keyframes can be applied, allowing the Source Text to be modified during animation
- Generators can be connected
- Modifiers can be applied
Warning
If you have written several lines in the text editing area, and then access this parameter in the Timeline, you will find that only the first line of the Source text is displayed to keep the Timeline as compact as possible.
